It is used in Russia for glaucomatous optic neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy, retinal abiotrophy (inherited retinal degeneration), and photochemical retinal damage. It is administered as intramuscular or parabulbar (around the eye) injections.
Standard protocol is 5 mg daily by intramuscular injection for 10 consecutive days. Parabulbar injection (0.25-5 mg) is used for direct ocular treatment. Quarterly courses are recommended.
